CERVICAL AND THORASIC MYELOPATHY AYURVEDA

This is again from our clinical experience, why I am writing is for awareness and efficacy of ayurveda treatments when it's done in clinically described manner.

We had many patients presented with cervical myelopathy and had done immediate surgery , come back again with rather the same symptoms.

Let's look at the outcome of both system of medical management.

Cervical myelopathy occur when there is pressure on the spinal cord in the neck or thoracic spine resulting in numbness/ weakness in the hands with associated symptoms of difficulty in balance and gait. Myelopathy typically results in a step wise deterioration.

Major symptoms
  • Clumsiness of hands,
  • Dropping objects
  • Neck pain
  • Tingling,numbness,arm aches
  • Walking and balance
  • Trouble in fine motor movements like buttoning buttons
Major cause
  • Arthritis of neck/back
  • Narrow spinal cord
                                                       Choice of treatment

  • Ayurveda
Non surgical, Regenrative medications and are non steroidal, major medications are
plant origin, external treatment procedures to reduce soft tissue inflammation, stiffness, muscle strengthening treatments, 80% reduction in pain, associated symptoms will be releaved within 3 months.

  • Allopathy
Always ends in surgical procedures, NSAIDS,steroids, muscle relaxants, in severe cases narcotics, always advice physiotherapy prior to surgery, 80% reduction in symptoms after surgery, associated symptoms will be releaved gradually.
Any type of spinal surgery will have its own risk of damaging spinal cord

It's your option to choose, Results are almost same , then why you opt for surgery if it's not necessary?

UNDERSTANDING PAIN IN MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS

PAIN

Each and every person in his or her life will be experiencing some sort of musculoskeletal disorders( joint, bone, muscle, tendon, ligament). This is common and a normal case in an active persons daily life. One and only important factor is the correct time to get an appointment with your health care provider.
Why I am writing this post is specific - there are many pain killers( both external and internal) easily avilable in market, common man dosent know the good and bad effects. Since new generation marketing trends are diverse, it's very easy to get a personal experience with little knowledge.

Let's discuss the pattern of PAIN you experience in a musculoskeletal injury.

Main cause of injury can be due to muscle injury, bone, nerve, vascular.  There will be associated symptoms sometimes due to inflammatory , degenerative, infection, neoplastic.

We will give you a rough idea to differentiate the type of pain you experience and whether it should be medically attended or not.

  • MUSCULAR PAIN -  this will be  dull, achy type, poorly localised, can refer to other area      Whenever muscle pain not alleviated within 12-24 hrs of injury, you should consult your health care provider.
  • BONE PAIN -         This will be deep and  well localised. It's always to consult a doctor if you experience this pattern of pain, if the pain was associated with any trauma , an immediate evaluation is needed.
  •  NERVE PAIN -      This will be burning ,sharp, pain in nerve distributed areas. If pain was not associated with trauma take rest for 12-24 hrs,if not alleviated consult your health care provider.
  • VASCULAR -      This will be same as that of  muscular pain, but can be diffuse dull ache with poor localisation. If not associated with trauma take rest for 12-24 hrs and not alleviated consult your health care provider.
There will be associated symptoms like weakness, numbness, tingling, elevated temperature in the limb, joint immobility, locking, clicking, swelling etc..

This is a rough idea of PAIN, one of the major symptom, there are many other factors

along with pain. Why I am giving more importance is the 12-24 hr time period, this is the time of

OTC ( over the counter medicines). In most of the cases these medicines will benefit but the major

problem is the continuous use without knowing the type of injury.

HOW TO CHOOSE AYURVEDA TREATMENT

HOSPITAL   VS    RESORT

  1. DIFFERENCE
HOSPITAL -  24hrs fully dedicated ayurveda  specialist doctors, nurses, therapist, pharmacist. Individual specialist doctors and specific treatment protocols as mentioned in classics.

RESORT.    -  A well build hotel with ayurveda doctor as the manager, hospitality at its best.

     2.  WHAT TO LOOK FOR

HOSPITAL -  It should be registered, should have specialist doctors to handle emergency, qualified therapist, nurses, pharmacist.

RESORT    -    It should be registered with tourism department ,  well maintained, safe, recommended by experts, charges should be specific.

     3.   PURPOSE OF VISIT

HOSPITAL -  It should be clinical ( specifically for disease conditions)

RESORT     -     It can be for relaxation, holidays, parties etc..

     4.  HOW TO CONTACT

HOSPITAL -  In person with patient is most preferred, for appointments -websites, phone call.
RESORT   -  Always pre-book, there will be changes in charges depending upon season. Web sites, tour operators.

     5.   ALWAYS LOOK FOR TESTIMONIALS

HOSPITAL - specific case studies/ recovery/ videos of patients.

RESORTS. -  should be genuine (look for language of writer). Pics and videos should be original.
