VENOUS ULCER..AYURVEDIC CURE..

A case of non healing venous ulcer ( medial distal end of right leg).
Again same question?...Ayurveda? Is it possible....and the answer- YES
Here we are discussing a case which is among one of many cases we come across.why I am writing is to spread the knowledge of scientific/comprehensive ayurvedic care which will give a better cost effective result with less side effects.
(Again as a research fellow, I would be specific with side effects.)
This is a patient from South part of kerala (identity not revealed). She is suffering from chronic non healing venous ulcer- medial distal end of right leg + dorsal surface of right foot. She was suffering from the same since last eight years.
The wound started as a small ulcer over medial distal end of leg, which then with course of time developed into a massive non healing ulcer. For everyone's interest she was under regular check up and medications of all kind from famous medical centres in South kerala.
All were having multiple concerns about her wound but nothing worked to heal the ulcer. She had spent lakhs of rupees untill this moment( her daughter says, she could have bought a plot and built a house with the money she had spend for treatments).
Here I am not hurting the feelings or knowledge of all the great doctors who have managed the case but they ( especially IMA) should understand the feelings of young ayurveda doctors who are trying to do their best to prove clinical and scientific evidence based treatments in ayurveda. IMA always insult ayurveda doctors as unscientific/non clinical/quacks.....and the description goes on......
But there are thousands of allopathic doctors who like ayurveda and support us...
This case was challenging for us because the lady had consulted with famous podiatric surgeons and she do have many family doctors.
During the course of her illness, major complication came after having done SCLEROTGERAPY for vericose veins.
After sclerotherapy the wound become so bad that she even can't walk.
Doctors always ask her for cleaning with normal saline + antibiotic dressing. They have consulted many microvascular surgeons for grafting but all said NO..
She was admitted for around 2 months at the same hospital were she had done SCLEROTHERAPY
Patient got some satisfactory results with one of the major podiatric surgeon in her place but the wound was not healed.some surgeons have the opinion of calcium deposits and had opted for removal therapies for 3-4 months which again haven't worked
Above was her breif medical history untill she came to us.Again Thanks to Google.... and her grand daughter...Her first consultation on17/02/2016

When we exposed the wound it was foul smelling and with dead tissue.she told us that she use to clean the wound daily with normal saline.
Diameter of the wound was high enough to say get admitted...
But to there personal inconvenience we advise her to take medicines for one month before getting admitted.
Cleaning was changed with our decoaction(Triphala kwath) and dressing with another ayurveda formulation. They were happy and left hospital with hope...
After one month they came back and we opened the dressing
Wound was showing healthy granulation and borders were clear. Patient was happy but pain persist during night/walking.we insisted for bed rest and advise same medications for one more month. After one month on 05/03/2016 and we open the dressing....

Ulcer almost healed with small area of ulceration remaining on medial distal end of leg. This time she was ready to get admitted at our hospital for 3 weeks  and during the course of Treatments she was on specialized external applications for raising the floor of the wound and getting back the normal colour of skin.slowly skin started showing pigmentation and the final portion remaining was healed.
At last....it took 2 months of medications and 25 days of hospitilization to heal the non healing ulcer which made her life painfull for last 8 yrs.

Osteomyelitis Effective ayurvedic management

As most of our readers know,we always present AYURVEDA as a clinically relevant medical system and today we are discussing an evidence based achievement which will emphasis the relevance of AYURVEDA as a choice of mainstream medicine other than labelling as an alternative system.

This is a case of  osteomyelitis, patient is male, soft ware employee with no other health issues other than chronic non healing ulcer over the medial aspect of left thigh with pus discharge since 3 years, he had an accident during his childhood and afterwards he start feeling stiffness and swelling of his thigh and had operated multiple times with symptomatic results for less than a month

Osteomyelitis is an infection in a bone which can reach bone through blood stream or spreading from nearby tissue.some times if an injury exposes the bone infections can begin in the bone.

This was once considered incurable... We too had the same opinion which we have to change after the  recovery of this patient......

Patient always complaints of stiffness of his thigh adjacent to the opening and near to the knee joint. From his words when stiffness increase ,within few weeks pus drainage starts and slowly stiffness releived, again not completely relived since last 10 years. Every time the wound get partially closed he start working and with few weeks stiffness comes back and then pus drainage..
This made his life hard and in his young age matters become worse.
When the patient first contacted us last August, wound was partially closed and without discharge, we advise him to contact when the wound is open.

He came to us on 23rd January 2016 and on our examination it was a sinus opening with crusted surrounding tissues and oedematous soft tissues. MRI shows focal cortical thickening with intramedullary focal collection in the lower femur bone with adjacent bony defect with sinus tract extending subcutaneously upto medial aspect of thigh.

We had a discussion and approached the patient with 50% chance of healing the sinus.patient was willing and we took the chance. Majority of our experts are having the opinion of doing ksharasutra therapy . We were sure that, If we manage to pierce the sinus deep enough and complete the threading procedure the sinus will heal. Again the question was how to trace the sinus until the bone and finish the procedure.

We planned the procedure for 25th of January and we managed to trace 25% of the tract. Main issue was thick medial compartment muscles and vessels. Finished partial threading by making an external opening over the skin. Since the sinus was deep we always had the confusion of drug deliverance .
Next day we had a sitting and we're having the opinion of plugging long ksharasutras deep into the open sinus. It was effective and pus drainage was achevied

Slowly the patient start feeling better and underwent 3 ksharasutra therapies.daily cleaning and dressing with triphala kashayam and internal ayurveda medicines specific for Vidradhi were on prescription.

For everyone's interest, no antibiotics we're prescribed, patient was without fever and was strictly under ayurveda medicines. Wound was open and pus drainage was effective.

At the time of discharge after 25 days, patient was happy with remaining 25% of wound closure still remaining,we advise him with medicines for one month and regular dressing with triphala kashayam.
He came back for review on 26/03/2016 and the results were wonderful.
Complete closure of sinus which he had achieved for the first time since last 3 years. It's the first time patient is without muscle stiffness even on deep palpation and walking.

At that moment we were PROUD AYURVEDA DOCTORS.......

Detailed videos of procedure will be  available on  our youtube account.

BACK PAIN...GOOD BYE...

There are many moments in our life which we think are simple. These simple things can make you feel better and will make you free from medicines .
We all use chairs for sitting in our daily life.Use of chairs starting form plastic to easy chairs. Do every one care his or her back while opting the chair.
This happens with office job mainly IT professionals and Bank employees, who used to sit more than 6 hrs at a time during there working hours.
If you can maintain a correct sitting posture which maintains normal cervical and lumbar curves and a straight spine with enough cushioning  of your back muscles and buttock without springs or rotation movements, you will feel much better and can prevent neck pains and back aches.
While working maintain an upright posture with your eyes facing your monitor in a straight line and always support your arms while typing.

Enjoy your work with pain free body........

Weight loss...it's easy 8kg in 10 days

You would really surprise....it's real and this is achieved without skipping diet or with intake of medicines. Weight loss is achieved with correction in metabolism and with the aid of some external therapies. We advise 11 days of  admission nothing more. 11th day is the day for detox. It's very cost effective. Development of this method was quiet accidental.since myself overweight and was not interested in unhealthy weightloss protocols ,I always skipped on these weight loss protocols due to its advertisements.

I had gone through many opinions regarding weight loss and all are having some sort of medications or protein diets, which will be having negative impact on my body organs, mainly liver and kidneys. This made me to think differently and I was motivated with G M diet which maintains a good body harmony. I opted GM diet and was beniffitted 3.5kgs in 7 days. This made me to think lot more which includes ayurveda concepts and herbs which can be used both us medicines and as foods. Main advantage of this protocol are...no need of exercise...no need of gym...no need of skipping your meals....you can eat delicious food and sleep well. Depending  upon body pattern and drugs ( used for other ailments),on an average you can loss 5-8kg in 10 days

Main advantage of opting this protocol is not lossing weight but to detox your body and correct your metabolism which will make you feel fresher....energetic....and more confident.

My advise is for those people who are having no time for work outs, hectic jobs, those who skip routines, those who needs relaxation from work, overweigh individuals who want to skip surgery for weight loss.

PSORIASIS FACTS AND COMPLETE AYURVEDIC CURE...

According to ayurvedic theories and concepts PSORIASIS  - one type of  kushta ( Sidhma kushta) where skin is the site of manifestation of a systemic pathology. Ayurveda describes this systemic pathology mainly related with metabolism and the importance of detoxification and purification prior to curative therapies...
Psoriasis can be treated and can be controlled by different systems of medicines (ayurveda,allopathy,homeopathy..) but what really matters is  how to manage a patient without relapse! and with minimum complications.
Here at Kottathil ayurveda  we are giving more importance to systemic detoxification and purification to get complete cure.
When we look into treatment options No other system of medicine other then ayurveda had given the prime importance of cellular level cleansing and systemic therapies to eliminate cellular exudates out of the body.
Ayurveda describes the manifestation of disease mainly due to the vitiated MALAS which invade the channels present everywhere inside the body and is transmitted to different parts of the body through lymph and blood which in due course of time makes the soft tissues flabby and skin with plaques.

If we look into the explanation each and every modern human being will definitely ask questions. Eg( what is the so called channels? Can you show me anatomically where it is? What are MALAS? )
For your  knowledge these are the ayurvedic variables or the hypothetical images made by ancient wisdom during there time period to give explanations to the same intellectual questions during there era..

It's really hard to correlate ....... But at the end ....RESULT matters..... And there , AYURVEDA WINS...

Images shown here are of relapsed cases in which patients had treated for psoriasis and got reccurance after 1-2 years..

We will update with fresh images of Complete cure after our treatment protocol.

Most common heard word with NECK PAIN - {  ITS A BULGE }

This occur when the soft inner core of the disc in your neck bulges aganist the firm outer layer. This occur commonly in the lower part of the neck, mainly C5-C6,C6-C7 { most of the movements in the neck occur at this point }. This results in neck pain and in many cases the disc bulge pinches the nerves which will lead to arm pain, numbness, tingling, weakness etc

TRUE STORY OF RECOVERY WITHOUT SURGERY

Hear from one of our patients diagnosed IVDP (lumbar) from a famous hospital in Banglore and was posted for immediate surgery on 2010. During the time of admission at our hospital he was on wheel chair and it take four healthy persons to make him stand. After our preliminary physical examination and medical images we suspected something more than IVDP which was again supported with his EMG reports. Since he was very young and was recently married its hard to comment on his future. But truly speaking we doctors at Kottathil are proud to say our Ayurveda along with his courage and faith made him stand...walk...run... and now its the third year 2013. It take three years of continoues  documentation, monitoring and interactions with the patient  for us to post this video as a sucess story which is medically relavant. He is a bank employee in middle east and is happy with his wife with no health problems. You can hear form his mouth

BODY TREATMENTS- SCIENTIFIC EXPLANATIONS

What comes to our mind  When we hear  the word Ayurveda . Treatments with oil, massage, dara etc. Then comes the next question. Are these procedures scientific?

Here am discussing some facts about Ayurvedic external treatments and its action on human body, i think after going through this topic some of you will get an idea of what impact these procedures can do.

SWEDANAM ( THERAPEUTIC HEATING)

  1.  Conduction heat- Heating modalities which are in contact with the skin .In ayurveda different types of heat modalities are used raining from choorna pinda swedam (dry heat) to shashtika pinda swedam . In the above mentioned procedures different types of medicinal plants, leaves etc are powdered made into bolus, packs etc and the procedures are done by expert personals with at-most care, preventing the skin temperature rising above 45 degree C.
Therapeutic effects are only achieved if tissue is heated to 40-45 degree C for at least 5mts. Effects of heating include circulatory changes, pain reduction, alteration of collagen extensibility and reduction in muscle spasm. For every one degree rise in tissue temperature there is 13% increase in metabolic rate, if temperature is too low ,tissue damage may again result as body fluids are frozen. For deep tissues therapeutic temperatures ranging from 5-6 degree above or below are recommended .  Joint stiffness is shown to reduce with deep heating, it reduces viscosity of joint fluid, but superficial heating will not affect .

     2.     Radiation heat- use of heat with out direct contact over skin surface.

ABHYANGAM (MASSAGE)

In this procedure massage, mobilization and manipulation are incorporated with at most care. Massage techniques ranging from Effleurage to Tapotment are integrated with ayurvedic marma points and hand movements, which are done with medicinal oils and other medicinal liquids. Effects are mechanical, Physiological and Psychological. These procedures  will improve venous and lymphatic drainage, fresh blood will enter the area . Passive movements to increase joints range of motion.

This is a  brief discussion regarding the two main procedures used in ayurveda for external  treatments. Normally in every case  SWEDANAM+ABHYANGAM are performed. This approach will give maximum results than individual methods. Ayurveda uses this approach in almost all musculoslkeletal conditions.

UNETHICAL AYURVEDA RESEARCH AND HERITAGE CENTRE

This is an article for future ayurveda doctors and medicine lovers.
As we all know kerala is famous for ayurveda medicine, I am asking few questions as a doctor and medicine lover…

  1. What do you mean by ayurveda?
  2. What do you mean by ayurveda treatment?
  3. Is it a money making   butcher?
  4. What do you mean by research?
  5. What do you mean by heritage?
The above marked words are being used in almost all advertisements; it is really painful to see nothing under these words only pure business with hospitality features. It is the time for ayurveda doctors to be specific and passionate regarding there medical system.

At this present moment, ayurveda getting noticed internationally, in kerala private ayurveda is in the hands of money making butchers and immoral co-operates, there is not even a single association of doctors to oppose these unethical establishments.

For example if you are a doctor please go through one famous advertisement today in almost all daily newspapers in kerala, you will find an inauguration in the name of ayurveda.
Please go through the page you will find ayurveda mentioned in the top and then a 3 star hotel.

I am not against any business, only thing is don’t use the word ayurveda  research in 3star and 5 star hotels and hospitality layouts, there are thousands of doctors and ancient renowned physicians working hard to spread a medical language to this system, you can use any other name and then you can add the facility.

Why this happen? Can you even dream of such things in ALLOPATHY?
It’s the time of proud ayurveda doctors to respond.
It’s the time of proud ayurveda associations to act..

If you can change the heading form AYURVEDA RESEARCH AND HERITAGE CENTRE to HERITAGE ONLY then we ayurveda doctors and genuine research centers won the match.

MEDICATED GHEE VS CHOLESTEROL

This is again most discussed and debated topic around the globe especially by the scientific evaluators of an ancient wisdom, its quiet natural when we think of ghee and its chances of hypercholestremia. Normal person, in this new generation, with sedantary activity, always suspect in oily and ghee preparations. As in ayurveda  major and key medication are oil and ghee preparations. Here am discussing one of the many cases we had in our hospital. This will raise many questions which needs to be  discussed and answered.
This is a case of O. A Hip with stage 1 avascular necrosis affecting both femoral heads, the option for ayurvedic treatment was to limit and stop steroids and to continue  conservative treatments with ayurvedic medicines for short period.
we designed a protocol and ghee (medicated GUGGULUTIKTHAKA GHRITHA) was our first choice as it is "sandhyasthimajjagatha vata roga"(affecting deep bony structures). Patient was stout with 85kgs and 5foot 7 inch tall, unable to move due to pain even in rest, its again difficult to convince the patient regarding the medicne, he was always confused since his blood picture at the time of admission
s.cholesterol
205mg%
triglcerides
117mg%
HDL
43.8mg/dl
LDL
138.6mg/dl

VLDL
23.4mg/dl
its his faith and determination not to use steroids made him to take this medication.
Probably all ayurveda doctors know there should be a processing period before intake of ghee(agni deepana-ayurvedic variable), we started ghee from the 4th day of admission and initial dose was 25ml(acchapana-only ghee)early morning without other medictions, he was asked to consume warm water untill he gets the desire for food. Once he felt hungry he was allowed to take hot water bath which was then followed by warm rice porridge. He was not allowed to take fruits, milk, tea, cofee, heavy food. The process continued as given below

Its clear form the above chart regarding the intake of ghee in 9 days . its the time, all waited for blood check, blood was collected on the 10 day and his lipid profile was evaluated, the reports
s.cholesterol
180mg%
triglcerides
160mg%
HDL
40.8mg/dl
LDL
103.6mg/dl

VLDL
35.6mg/dl
Its clear from the reports regarding the level of lipids in blood, there is an increase in triglycerides but all the other parameters are clinically relevant.
Patient was feeling well and with reduced pain and was feeling better than steroids.
Next course of treatment was muscle strengthening and supporting joints with the help of oil bandages, along with few decoctions. he was feeling much better. During the time of discharge after 21 days his serum cholesterol was 185mg%.
At the time of discharge he was feeling well and is on ghee (vicharana-along with food/medicnes).These are some of the few examples which will make people think ayurveda as scientific and evidence based.

Please post your comments and valuable questions so that we will be able to propagate scientific ayurveda. This is a chronic degenerative case with long course of treatments needed. the study goes on .............

APPRECIATION FROM CENTRAL GOVERMENT AND AYUSH

Its always motivating for each and every person to be acknowledged and appreciated by a higher authority especially by Madam Shailaja Chandra, former secretary, government of India,Ministry of health and family welfare, Department of Ayush and  former chief secretary ,Goverment of Delhi. In her report on status of Indian medicine and folk medicine she gave an illustration of how the age old system of ayurveda persist in this new generation, for making a report on the past and present on ayurveda, travelling through out india and watching how this system made its mark in common man's life and how the new generation doctors contribute their heart and soul for enriching the future of ayurveda.
In her report she mentions about the historical perspective, research, education, practice, medicinal plants, drugs, etc in detail. Such reports should be made by health ministry for improving and motivating new generation ayurveda doctors and hospitals for their effort in bringing back the essence of INDIAN MEDICINE .
Its only  the writings from the higher officials that can make an impact on the INDIAN goverment and ABROAD. Main question marks on ayurveda are , Is it scientific, Are the doctors qualified, How they are taught, Is it true and the questions goes on..........................., these questions are asked by most scientific persons in India, they always see the system of gurus, and rishis, a magic remedy, rejuvination therapy, detoxification therapy, relaxation therapy and the name goes on, no one gives this system a pharmacological approach .

Its very few who knows, how the students are taught, how the colleges work, is there any college, etc, more than 75% still have the concept of heavenly healing from sadhus, and they always go after long beards, they are unaware of specialized clinics and hospitals . Respected madam clearly mentions how the multispeciality clinics and hospitals work and which all departments they are specialized with the percentage of outpatient and inpatient details.

We are proud to be listed us one of the private multispeciality hospital on chapter 4- practice, page no: 174,175 in her report.  Along with us there are hospitals and clinics around the country  where scientific  ayurveda system is being practiced. For more details regarding her report you can visit her  blog on  shailaja chandras blog or http://over2shailaja.wordpress.com/2011/10/13/status-of-indian-medicine-and-folk-healing/

We appreciate her interest in revealing the essence of age old system in new generation and motiviting new generation doctors.

MARMA HEALING

MARMA THERAPY- CURE WITHOUT ORAL MEDICINES

this is again a new methodology in treatment for western people , this protocol of disease management were mentioned and constantly practiced during ancient period with miraculous results in one single session, but due to different factors including foreign invasions and traditional rivalaries made this valuable and truely unimaginable approach in paper and epics.
we here at kottathil ayurveda are trying to go back to the basics of marma treatment which includes special techniques using hands and postures from outside to normalise body. almost all ayurveda doctors are aware of MARMAS but there are very few around the world who are able to perform the art.
It was very fortunate for us to get interact with one of the few legends in MARMA therapy and to get enough guidence in management of chronic and acute diseases with BARE HANDS. for an outsider watching--- its MAGIC TREATMENT. but the truth is its all scientific and the ancient scientist have clearly mentioned and described how this happen , the main problem occur when we compare with modern wisdom.
while deeply getting into the subject its very clear, the ancient people which we and books represent as YOGIS or GURUS are actual SCIENTIST of there era, they have explained there approach through there research methodology and made there hypothesis . they treated many people with this and they got results. they had documented all there findings, many are lost and few remaining.

the modern era/ scientific era describe those people as RELIGIOUS insaine people with god powers. but its not the truth they incoprated there knowledge and talent into human life and postulated different opinions .
From our experience its an art and every doctor should know this management. its totally medicne free, low cost and without any side effects. we can manage almost all diseases affecting human body. for more details regarding treatment please email at mail@kottathilayurveda.com

HEMIPLEGIA + O.A BOTH KNEE

This is the case of mrs indira devi, 50yrs, female ,vinayak nagar, ganteyada gajuwaka, vishakapattanam. she came to me with the complaints of paralysis of right side of the body since six weeks with urinary incontinence and third stage osteo arthritis both knee ,and severe edema of rt ankle .

while getting into her history she had a brain injury six weeks back during a train journey and her MRI brain shows ACUTE INFARCTION INVOLVING THE BRAIN STEM. she got admitted in a famous hospital in vishakapattanam and they gave the emergency management with the advice of physiotherapy, but there was not any marked relief during this period and the patient got admitted at our hospital.

This was again a challenging case, we are confident with our medicines and treatment ,the main concern was osteoarthritis knee, even if her nervous system and musculoskeletal system regains its normal function the degenerated knee joint can damage the results due to lack of stability, but we had many O.A cases which got very good results after treatment. we plan 30 days treatment .

In our experience most of the cases with infarcts respond within one week of treatment, and the patient slowly get strength in there lower limbs which enable them to drag there limbs , upper limbs respond late in almost all the cases mainly wrist and finger movements . in her case it was on the 5th day she started slowly raising her leg only for a moment, it gradually got improved. we gradually removed her catheter, body responded and she was able to hold urine for some moment. Her condition got improved day by day and she was able to stand with support after 3 weeks , but her knees started making problems since they lack stability and loss of cartilage made the condition worse, but her motor activity got better and muscles started functioning back to normal.

gradually on the 4th week of her treatment she started walking with support and was trying to move her limbs with some effort, slowly the condition improved and she used to walk with support 100 mtrs per day and it got improved to around 500mtrs/day during the time of discharge, .

At the time of discharge she was able to stand without support walk with some support and her urinary incontinence reduced. she got discharged and is under our observation at the moment.

Scientific Ayurveda

Around the world there is a concept that Ayurveda, a type of old treatment with local remedies. Critics always points out the words ‘ITS UNSCIENTIFIC, WITH NO PROOF'.

Ayurveda answers its critics by giving scientific proof on blood picture and MRI

Here we are discussing one of the many cases we had in our hospital.
Mrs Joshy Mathew came to our hospital with radiating pain of leg starting from hip, travelling down to legs and foot. She also had complaints of knee pain, mainly right knee and radiating pain of both arms and numbness of hands.

On her MRI
  • Broad based disc prolapse over C5 – C6 narrowing neural foramina with compression of exiting nerve roots
  • Disc protrusion at C3-C4, C4-C5
  • Cervical bony canal stenosis at C5-C6
  • Disc dehydration at L3-L4,  L4-L5, L5-S1
  • L3-L4 mild diffuse bulging
  • L4-L5 diffuse bulge with narrowing of neural foramina and nerve root compression
  • L5-S1 disc prolapsed . post central and right foraminal protrusion leading to indention over thecal sac and narrowing of right neural foramina with nerve root compression

This was a challenging case. Since the lady was in her early forties, the condition makes her unable to do her household works.

We started with internal medicines for two weeks and the patient got some relief from the pain and numbness.
Then we plan for admitting the patient and slowly started ayurvedic external treatment modalities.

At first the body responded with increase in her symptoms, but gradually the whole subsided and we were able to the perform all the therapeutic methods along with internal medicines and mild physiotherapy.

She was admitted for 21 days and after the treatment 80% of her symptoms subsided.

We performed all the clinical evaluations and the patient was tolerable to all tests.

We advice rest for two more months after the treatment, during this period only internal medicines were advised.

After 2 months we took the MRI and the images tells the truth how great and systematic is Ayurveda and its medicines.
